Chris Marshall is a Senior Analyst at The Mellman Group, a polling and consulting firm whose clients include leading political figures, Fortune 500 companies, and the nation's most important public interest groups. He has worked extensively with political candidates both domestically and internationally, using a wide variety of cutting-edge quantitative and qualitative research techniques. His most recent campaign work includes Jennifer Granholm’s gubernatorial victory in Michigan, Zell Miller’s senate victory in Georgia, and the re-election campaigns of Representatives Sandy Levin, Nita Lowey, and Bob Etheridge. Marshall also regularly conducts research for the DSCC and DCCC, researched the women’s vote for Al Gore’s presidential campaign, and worked as a research consultant on the Clinton-Gore Re-elect. Additionally, Marshall has significant international experience, including a presidential campaign in Mexico and research on behalf of the Shevardnadze Administration in the Republic of Georgia. Marshall has extensive experience in state legislative politics, having worked with state caucuses on well over 100 campaigns in 16 states.
Marshall has been at the center of the most prominent message strategy campaigns on behalf of environmental advocacy groups in the Bush era and before, conducting research for the Conservation Defense Committee (comprised of all of the leading environmental groups in the country), as well as doing extensive research for National Environmental Trust, League of Conservation Voters, Wilderness Society, Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund, SeaWeb, the Marine Fish Conservation Network, Heritage Forest Campaign, Union of Concerned Scientists, Arctic Refuge Coalition, the Everglades Defense Council, Save Our Wild Salmon, the Bureau of Land Management Wilderness Campaign, Clear The Air, Clean Air-Cool Planet, and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance. Marshall was also instrumental in helping get the California Park Bond Initiative passed in 1999.
Marshall has conducted research for many other corporations, unions, associations, non-profits, and issue advocacy organizations, including U.S. News and World Report, EMILY’s List, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the World Bank, the AFL-CIO, SEIU, AFSCME, the Connecticut State Employee’s Association, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, People for Better TV, Wyeth-Aherst, several state education associations, the ARCA Foundation, Americans for Gun Safety, Handgun Control Inc., Doctors Against Handgun Injury, the American Nurses Association, Bell Atlantic, Norcal, Electricities, Fayetteville Public Works Commission, United Water, Intuit, the National Network of Commercial Real Estate Women, and others.
Prior to joining The Mellman Group, Marshall worked as a Senior Analyst at the polling firms of Lake Snell Perry & Associates and Cooper & Secrest Associates. An avid outdoorsman who hails from Great Falls, Virginia, Marshall holds a B.A. in government and philosophy from the University of Virginia, an M.A. in Political Science from Columbia University, and did 3 years of additional graduate work in political behavior at the University of Texas at Austin.
