Michael Bloomfield, Executive Vice President and Managing Director

Michael Bloomfield is the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of The Mellman Group, a polling and market research firm whose clients include elected officials across the country, Fortune 500 companies, and some of the nation's leading public interest groups.

In the political sphere, Michael has established a reputation for helping Democrats take back Republican seats even in so-called “red states”. In 2004, he was the pollster for Brian Schweitzer, the first Democrat to be elected Governor in Montana in 20 years, and helped John Barrow upset a Republican Congressman in Georgia, to become one of only two Democrats in the country to defeat an incumbent. And as pollster and strategist for the North Carolina House Caucus he helped Democrats regain legislative control in 2004, and expand that majority in 2006. Last year, he also helped the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to pick up seats from Florida to Arizona.

Working for a wide range of corporate and non-profit organizations, Michael and the firm have done extensive research on health care, immigration, education, and new technologies, as well as charitable giving, consumer satisfaction and giving or buying decisions. His clients include BlueCross BlueShield Association, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the Alliance for Digital Progress, and the Washington Wizards. He has worked closely with business, labor and medical groups in the Coalition to Protect Your Healthcare to stop Association Health Plan legislation which would weaken consumer and patient health care security. He has also worked on market research for BlueCross to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen brand identification with cost control, and reduce the number of uninsured.

Before joining The Mellman Group, he served as Political Director of AIPAC, The American Israel Public Affairs Committee. During his tenure, Capitol Hill’s newspaper, Roll Call, selected him as one of the fifty most influential people working behind the scenes in Washington politics, and AIPAC was twice listed as the second most effective lobbying organization in Washington by Fortune Magazine. He managed a local campaign in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio and worked on Capitol Hill for Senators Don Riegle and Howard Metzenbaum.

He has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox with analysis of elections and politics, and has been a regular analyst on American politics for CBC and CTV in Canada.

He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife and their two children. He has run five mara-thons, including qualifying for, and running, the Boston Marathon.
